Man in a Convertible

Did you know that the average American spends about one hour in the car every day? That has typically been time that has been lost for business as when driving you should keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. That of course has not stopped people from talking on their phone and also making our vehicles much more complex. While we can already order a pizza from our cars or pay for gas from our car that is just the beginning.

Being able to make payments from our vehicles will be one of the next standard features that comes with new vehicles and there are some serious opportunities here.

Convenience

Think about how convenient it is to be able to pay for a tank of gas from your vehicle. With the rash of skimmers that have been found on gas pumps that is a huge plus for your security. It also makes getting the product paid for and you back on your way faster. Or allowing you to order something in the car and pick it up a few minutes later and go on your way. Users may be able to prepay for certain things, like a tank of gas, making these stops even easier.

Security

There are of course some hurdles that will need to be overcome and security is the #1 concern. It may be difficult to hack a moving vehicle but any account will be on the Internet and that can be hacked. While a user may not need to have to worry about having their vehicle hacked while driving like you see on TV your wallet could be empty when you pull up to the pumps. There have been some advancements when it comes to securing mobile payment solutions like tokenization but there is still a ways to go.

Safety

The safety for this means that the interface needs to be intuitive and easily used. When you are driving you should be concentrating on the road. Your safety and the safety of everyone around depends on that. You’ve probably seen someone on their cellphone while driving and you’ve seen how they drive. How do you think operating an interface like this while driving will go?

Of course there are potential ways to overcome this. The interface could be locked while the car is in motion, unless someone is in the passenger seat. This time could be used to say, advertise thereby helping to recoup some costs. The system could also be set to be used by voice control allowing it to be hands free, which would make it safer. The technology is there for that already.

True Mobile Solution

When commerce can be done through your vehicle that will be a true mobile solution. A decade ago did you think that this would be possible now? It seems like something out of science fiction. Who knows what you’ll be able to buy from your car in the near future? JLE Business Consultants will be keeping an eye on this.
