April 14, 2016Need help with a SAQ?
April 26, 2016On an EMV card is a lot of sensitive data that must be protected from data thieves. It is common on some platforms for some of this information to be stored for a customer’s convenience but some of the information must never be stored, hence making to tougher for thieves to duplicate the card and use it for their purposes. On the front of the card you will find the PAN (the 12 digit card number), the cardholder’s name, and the expiration date. These are commonly stored bits of information. Also on the front (of American Express cards) is a CID. This should not be stored. On all other brands of cards the CID is found on the back on the signature line. Chances are if you have ever bought anything online you had to type that number in every time a purchase was made. That along with the data stored on the magnetic strip is the last piece of data a thief needs to duplicate a card and steal the cardholder’s identity. If you store your customer’s information, protect it like your business depends on it, because it does. It’s good business practice and it’s common sense. If you need help with any of this contact Jeff at 717-781-3750 and he will be glad to help you out.
