The Worst Passwords of 2018
February 19, 2019Are You Excited About Tap and Pay
March 5, 2019Pretty soon someone may hand you a MasterCard and it will look a little different. No, it is not because the customer is using a stolen or counterfeit card so don’t worry. MasterCard is just changing its logo. It is in a way a very small change and yet a huge change.
You are of course familiar with the MasterCard logo. We detailed a little bit about MasterCard awhile back so check this out if you would like to learn more about them and their logo.
In a way little changes. The two interlocking red and yellow circles that have been used since the 1960s are not going anywhere. These have come to be known as the MasterCard symbol and have been a part of the brand for over 50 years. What is changing is that MasterCard is removing MasterCard from the logo. The two interlocking circles will now stand on their own without any text on them.
With a symbol that has been in use since 1968 that people have come to know this could either prove that people know what the symbol is or a huge gamble so we will see just how recognizable the symbol truly is. Of course MasterCard is not alone in words from the logo. Apple’s Apple, Nike’s Swoosh and numerous others have long simply used a symbol and have thrived. Consumers are coming to know companies by the symbol and do not need text to tell them what it is.
In the near future as new cards are issued and you now see a new MasterCard logo or receive new MasterCard signage you do not have to worry about its legitimacy. No that customer does not have a counterfeit card, they just have a new card. It will take some getting used to but the two circles that you have come to know are still present. Now, if they are different colors on the card then maybe you should worry…
